JERUSALEM, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- A total of 12 Israeli hi-tech startups, mainly from the medical and healthcare sector, participated in the second round of "Chuangxiang China" Anhui innovation and entrepreneurship competition in central Israel.

The event was hosted by China's Anhui provincial government in Israeli central city of Tel Aviv on Thursday evening.

A total of 110 Israeli hi-tech startups applied for the competition, mostly involved in the research and development (R&D) of technologies in healthcare, smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, 12 out of which were qualified to the second round of the competition.

After presentations and meetings, three Israeli startups, On-Sight, Vectorious and RedDress, became the winners of the second round and will attend the final round of the competition, which is to be held in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province in November this year.

The medical and healthcare sector has increasingly become an important sector attracting both Israeli and Chinese companies.

As China has an increasing aging population and is in great need of better medical treatment, there is a favorable government-level innovation cooperation mechanism between China and Israel.

China's huge market potential for medical treatment and healthcare is the fundamental element that attracts Israeli hi-tech startups to bring their hi-tech solutions and products to the Chinese market.

Itay Kezurer, co-founder and CTO of On-Sight, which has developed an automated ultrasound solution for patients, told Xinhua after his company won the competition that his visit to China two months ago enhanced his company's determination to explore cooperation opportunity in the Chinese market.

Chinese demand for medical and healthcare solutions is huge and the competition worked as a very useful bridge for his company to explore the Chinese market, added Kezurer.

The startup Vectorious, which has developed the world's first in-heart microcomputer and provides measurements of heart function, also won the competition.

Oren Goldshtein, CEO of the company, told Xinhua that China's manufacturing sector has an advantage and China has a big market. He expressed his expectation to establish a joint venture in China in the future.

According to Goldshtein, the world's first wireless in-heart microcomputer has begun its clinical trials early this year in Britain, Germany, Italy and Israel. The Chinese side shows interest in his company.

Both Kezurer and Goldshtein said they are confident for the upcoming final round of the competition.

RedDress has developed a ground breaking, biologic advanced wound care product, based on a patented technology to reproduce the natural process of the body to heal wounds.

Top 10 of the 12 Israeli hi-tech startups attending the second round of the competition will be invited to visit China for potential cooperation opportunities, said Li Lingjun, founding partner of Button Capital with its China's headquarters located in Anhui Province.

David Akunis, partner of the Britain-based capital company Medvest engaged in funding medical projects, said the three Israeli hi-tech startups which attended the second round of the competition were invested by his company .

In order to seek more cooperation opportunities in China with huge potentials, he said he will bring more Israeli hi-tech startups to attend the competition of such kind in the future, Akunis told Xinhua.

"Chuangxiang China" Anhui innovation and entrepreneurship competition has been held overseas for two consecutive years. A total of 626 foreign companies participated in the competition during the two years and some of them have succeeded in attracting Chinese investment or signing cooperation contracts, said Li.
