WARSAW, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia national football team upset Poland 2-0 in Ljubljana on Friday, handing Jerzy Brzeczek's team its first loss in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Slovenia played bravely in a sold-out Stozice stadium from the start and was rewarded ten minutes before the break when Aljaz Struna broke the deadlock shooting from the close range.

Poland tried hard to level, but the host doubled the lead in the 65th minute. Andraz Sporar turned a one-on-one's situation into goal after stunning pass by Josip Ilicic.

"It wasn't our best match, we must improve. We conceded two simple goals, for me it's unacceptable. We expected that Slovenia will play this way, but we couldn't stop the rival," Polish star Robert Lewandowski said.

Poland still sits top of the group with 12 points from four victories, while Slovenia is in third place with eight points. Enditem
