MANILA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Singapore President Halimah Yacob arrived in Manila on Sunday for a five-day state visit to mark the golden anniversary of the Singapore-Philippines diplomatic relations.

The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines (DFA) said that Halimah's visit to the Philippines is at the invitation of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

"The state visit will mark the apex of this year's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Singapore," the DFA said in a statement.

Besides attending activities in Manila, Halimah is scheduled to visit Davao City, Duterte's home city in the southern Philippines, where she will be welcomed by Duterte's daughter, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Halimah is Singapore's first female president and first Malay head of state in 47 years. Enditem
