NEW YORK, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Independent women in modern times should stay true to themselves so as to be themselves, and be persistent in realizing their dreams, a famous Chinese American designer who has established her womenswear brand in New York City (NYC) has said.

Such an introspective and bold attitude is what defines her understanding of fashion, according to Vivienne Hu, whose namesake brand VH has unveiled its spring and summer 2020 collection at New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

"I think independent women nowadays are very loyal to themselves. It's good to just be yourself and stay true to be yourself, which I believe more and more women have managed to achieve," Hu told Xinhua in an interview. "That's how we define (the connotation of) VH apparel."

"We would do a lot of research for each season's design. Yet we prefer to adopt elements that explain our own definitions (of fashion), instead of chasing after trends," she said. "Fashion depends on your way of understanding (the world)."

The brand's latest collection drew the spotlight on a shimmering glamor style that highlights body shape and feminine charm, including glittery metallic gowns, loungy suits trimmed with lace, and silk dresses, offering runway-goers a mixed taste of classic metallic design and high street fashions.

"We would like to infuse stylish metallic elements into silk garments that embody feminine glamour, in order to make a (type of) modern matching with both aesthetic and classical appeal," said the designer.

Born and raised in China, Hu got her college degree in Europe and first worked as a financier at an investment bank in Wall Street, prior to studying fashion design at Parsons School of Design in NYC.

In 2012, Hu launched her namesake brand, which incorporates European elegance into New York street style while mixing exotic Asian elements, and aims to embody the spirit of independent women, featuring both femininity and individuality.

The brand has been selected by the Council of Fashion Designers of America as one of the resident brands of NYFW since 2014.

"You need to be patient, be persistent and try hard," Hu stressed when talking about the path to achieve her fashion dream, adding that there is a great deal of hard work that needs to be done.

The designer also said China's fashion industry has enjoyed great momentum, as fashion always comes along with creativity. "I think the young generation has been very zealous in (improving their) creativity. I'm optimistic about the future of Chinese fashion industry." Enditem
