TOKYO, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar lifted exporter issues and helped buoy the broader market.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 79.83 points, or 0.37 percent, from Monday to 21,398.25.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.71 points, or 0.43 percent, at 1,557.82.
Oil and coal product, iron and steel, and bank-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
