ACCRA, Sept. 11(Xinhua) -- Ghana's Black Meteors have booked a place in the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in Egypt later this year, following a 1-0 win over Algeria in the return fixture of the final round of qualifiers in Setif Tuesday night.
Skipper Yaw Yeboah, who plays for Celta Vigo in the Spanish La Liga, scored the only goal in the 69th minute with a solo run to give Ghana a hard-fought 2-1 aggregate victory.
The Les Fennecs elevated their game after recess but struggled to breakthrough the defence of the Ghanaian side who were resilient and ensured that the West African nation protected its goal advantage and progress to the U-23 Championship.
The Black Meteors will join hosts Egypt and other qualified countries at the tournament which will be held in Cairo from Nov. 5 to 22.
The U-23 tournament will determine which three African nations will compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics men's football tournament in Japan.
Ghana is looking to make it to the next Olympic football competition after missing out of the competition since Athens in 2004. Enditem
