CHANGCHUN, China, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese ice dance pair Wang Shiyue/Liu Xinyu led the rhythm dance at the National Championships in northeast China's Changchun on Saturday.

Wang/Liu, who skipped the China Figure Skating Club League earlier the season and just made their debut here Saturday, danced to the music of Charlle Chaplin and scored 75.35 to be ranked first.

Chen Hong/Sun Zhuoming took the second place in 71.98, while Ning Wanqi/Wang Chao followed in third in 60.05.

Wang/Liu and Chen/Sun have been long taking training in Montreal and the national tournament is their first competition of the season.

"We performed our training level," said Wang. "Despite some mistakes in details, I feel good today. I am very exciting because it's our first competition this season."

"We trained in Montreal and we improve a lot in our speed and exhibition," Wang added.

Wang/Liu took an 18th finish at the 2019 Figure Skating World Championships in Saitama, Japan, and they look to improve their place next time.

"I hope we can move to 10th to 12th at the worlds next year," Liu said. "We will try our best in every competition."

The National Championships runs from September 11 to 15 and serves as a qualifier for the National Winter Games. The free dance will be held on Sunday. Enditem
