BERLIN, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Marco Reus' brace helped Borussia Dortmund to return to winning ways after beating hapless Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 on home soil at the 4th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.

The "BVB" climbed atop the standings for the moment as Reus was on target twice while Raphael Guerreiro and Paco Alcacer extended the lead to inflict Leverkusen the first loss of the season.

Dortmund caught a slow start in front of home crowd whereas the "Werkself" were unable to produce goal-scoring opportunities despite a greater possession.

The hosts grew into the game as the clock ticked and the "BVB" should have opened the scoring with 24 minutes into the game but Leverkusen goalie Peter Hradecky denied Marco Reus' low shot before defusing Julian Brandt's follow-up shot.

Hradecky was hapless though moments later as Achraf Hakimi's pin-point cross allowed Paco Alcacer to break the deadlock four minutes later.

Dortmund had the golden chance to double their advantage moments later but Hradecky was once again on guard before Jonathan Tah blocked Thomas Delaney's close-range effort.

The visitors started highly motivated into the second half and had the opportunity to level the scores through Karimi Bellarabi, who fired wide of the target from promising position.

Dortmund staged a clinical chance conversion and doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half after Sancho's square pass and Alcacer's fake gave Reus space and time to tap the ball into the far post corner.

Leverkusen tried to respond but they were unable to overcome Dortmund's well-positioned bulwark.

The "BVB" meanwhile remained on the front foot and tripled their lead in the closing period as Jadon Sancho's rebound met Guerreiro who made no mistake from the edge of the box.

The visitors were unable to put up resistance while Dortmund rounded off their faultless performance in the dying seconds of the game when Reus sealed his brace after Jacob Bruun Larsen's assist.

Elsewhere, Alassane Plea's sole goal of the game secured Borussia Monchengladbach a narrow 1-0 lead over rivals Cologne.

Werder Bremen overpowered newly promoted Union Berlin 2-1 to reap all three points on the goals from Davy Klaasen and Niclas Fullkrug.

Augsburg celebrated their first win of the season, as goals from Marco Richter and Florian Niederlechner were enough to edge Frankfurt and Jeremiah St. Juste's last grasp 2-1 goal against Hertha Berlin handed Mainz the first three points of the campaign. Enditem
