HARARE, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe's ruling party ZANU-PF on Sunday applauded South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for denouncing xenophobic attacks by South Africans on fellow Africans in his country.

Addressing mourners at the funeral of former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe on Saturday, Ramaphosa apologized for the attacks and said his country was working hard to end them.

More than 12 people -- including two Zimbabweans -- have died and hundreds displaced since the attacks began at the beginning of September.

Describing the attacks at barbaric, ZANU-PF secretary for information Simon Khaya Moyo said the party welcomed Ramaphosa's statement.

"The party also welcomes the statement by our dear brother, His Excellency President Cde Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa denouncing the barbaric attacks by South Africans on African nationals and their businesses in his country which has claimed many lives and injuring many," said Moyo.

"Cde Ramaphosa's bold stance to express his regret over the violence delivers the much anticipated hope for a prompt end to the sad and dehumanizing developments," Moyo added. Enditem
