HONG KONG -- Both passenger and cargo volume of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) dropped sharply in August as illegal assemblies and violent acts severely disrupted its operation, data showed Sunday.

The HKIA handled six million passengers last month, down 12.4 percent from a year ago, the Airport Authority (AA) Hong Kong said in a statement. There were 35,655 air traffic movements in August, down 3.5 percent year on year.(Hong Kong-Airport)

HONG KONG -- At least eight people were injured on Sunday as rioters escalated violence by setting fires, throwing petrol bombs, beating innocent residents and blocking roads on the Hong Kong Island.

HONG KONG -- Principal officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Sunday promised more measures to improve citizens' living conditions.

KABUL -- Thirty-five Taliban militants were killed after Afghan security forces waged a special operation in western Farah province on Saturday night, the country's Interior Ministry said Sunday.

"The operation was launched in Anar Dara district of Farah. Those among the killed were Sayyed Azim, insurgent's shadow district chief for Anar Dara, and Esmatullah who served as Taliban chief intelligence in the district," the ministry said in a statement.(Afghanistan-Militants) Enditem
