OUAGADOUGOU, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Burkina Faso and G5 Sahel have secured support of the European Union (EU), Germany and France in fighting terrorism.

Special envoys of EU, Germany and France on Sunday seperately expressed their support after meeting Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore here.

This followed their participation Saturday here in the special Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which decided to mobilize up to 1 billion U.S. dollars to curb the escalating terrorism spreading from the G5 Sahel countries, namely Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso.

"We reviewed the security situation in the region as it now stands, and I reiterated the support of the European Union to Burkina Faso and to the G5 Sahel in the currently underway process," said EU special envoy for Sahel Angel Losada.

Germany special envoy for Sahel Gordon Kricke said he spoke with President Kabore about partnership for security and stability in Sahel as well as the ECOWAS special summit on terrorism.

"We have projects of this type in all the G5 Sahel countries and in the ECOWAS member states," he said.

France special envoy to Sahel Christophe Bigot said the ECOWAS summit was a significant expression of regional solidarity with countries deeply-affected by terrorism.

About 2,200 terrorist attacks were registered over the last four years in the ECOWAS region, causing 11,500 deaths and displacing several millions. Enditem
