ALGIERS, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Algeria and Togo on Thursday signed in Algiers a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost political consultations and set up a roadmap for reviving economic ties.

The MoU was signed between Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey and his Algerian counterpart Sabri Boukadoum.

Boukadoum told reporters that the meeting was an opportunity to "discuss all pending issues ahead of reviving the bilateral ties with Togo."

He noted that the MoU would play a key role in the process of warming the bilateral relations with Togo.

The MoU paves way for developing partnerships in several areas, the Algerian top diplomat said, adding that he also exchanged views with his Togolese counterpart over ways to coordinate positions on regional and international issues of common interest.

For his part, Dussey said that his official visit to Algeria is part of efforts aiming at strengthening bilateral relations, saying "Algeria has always played a key role in the African continent," noting "the MoU that we signed today would permit to strengthen cooperation between the two countries."

He specified that the MoU focuses on cooperation in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economy, education and training.

Later in the day, Dussey was received by interim president Abdelkader Bensalah. Enditem
