U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly higher

NEW YORK, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher on Thursday with eight of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Shares of New Oriental Education & Technology Group and BeiGene rose 2.01 percent and 1.57 percent, respectively, leading the gainers in the top 10 stocks of the index.

Shares of Ctrip.com International slid 2.44 percent, the worst performer among the top 10 stocks of the index.

U.S. stocks pared most of the early gains to close mixed on Thursday amid a slew of key economic data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 52.29 points, or 0.19 percent, to 27,094.79. The S&P 500 increased 0.06 points, or 0.002 percent, to 3,006.79. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 5.49 points, or 0.07 percent, to 8,182.88.

The Cboe Volatility Index, widely considered the best fear gauge in the stock market, rose 0.72 percent to 14.05 on Thursday.

As of Wednesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 2,899.79, marking a 2.55-percent increase for the month-to-date returns and a 26.56-percent gain for the year-to-date returns. Enditem
