HARARE, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zimbabwe's major media outlets on Friday.

-- The Zimbabwe government has widened the tax-free threshold to 3, 500 Zimbabwe dollars with effect from Aug. 1, 2019 to improve disposable income in the face of price increases.

This comes as the highest rate on taxable income has been reduced from 45 percent to 40 percent, to free some money which can be channeled towards consumption and savings. (The Herald)

-- The Zimbabwe government on Thursday released 37.4 million Zimbabwe dollars, including foreign currency, towards interventions to improve water access and waste water treatment in Harare. The move comes as a relief to residents as the corruption-riddled MDC-led Harare Municipality struggles to provide clean water.

The funds from the government are earmarked for the completion of Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant, overhaul of the water distribution network, sewer reticulation system upgrade and installation of 8,000 residential prepaid meters. (The Herald)

-- Zimbabwe's small-scale miners could produce an average of three tonnes of gold per month if the current 1.5 million unregistered miners were registered and brought into the mainstream economy, an official has said.

Addressing delegates attending the Zimbabwe Alternative Mining indaba in Bulawayo on Wednesday, Zimbabwe Miners' Federation chief executive officer Wellington Takavarasha said small-scale and artisanal miners had capacity to produce more gold if the government could come up with light-handed policies for them.
