ATHENS, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of people walked from Omonia square in the heart of Athens to Zappeion Exhibition Hall in a silent march, marking the International Day of Peace on Saturday.

Behind the initiative is Service Civil International (SCI), a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting the culture of peace by organizing projects for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Many volunteers, as well as groups such as Peaceful Ladies -- a team of women from Africa, took part in the parade.

The silent march ended in the courtyard of the Zappeion Hall, where the participants presented a short theatrical piece -- along with refugees, and formed the shape of peace on the ground.

The International Day of Peace is observed around the world on Sept. 21 each year. Enditem
