ATHENS, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Greek police announced on Saturday the arrest of a suspect of involvement in the hijacking of an airplane and kidnapping in 1985.
According to a press release, the 65-year-old foreign national was detained on Thursday on Mykonos island based on a European arrest warrant issued by German authorities on charges of terrorism.
The man who is still in custody in Greece is a Lebanese national who was involved in the June 14, 1985 hijacking of a TWA flight and the killing of a U.S. Navy member who was among the 153 passengers and crew members, according to Greek newspaper "Ethnos" (Nation).
The airplane was traveling from Cairo to San Diego with a stopover in Athens among others. It was hijacked by two men shortly after takeoff from Athens airport as it was en route to Rome.
Two years later, a suspect was arrested in Frankfurt and sentenced to life imprisonment, who was paroled in 2005, according to "Ethnos".
The 65-year-old was detained during passport control while disembarking from a cruise ship on Mykonos, the Greek newspaper reported, citing police sources. Enditem
