TRIPOLI -- A total of 18 people were killed and dozens injured in violent clashes here on Saturday between Libya's UN-backed government forces and the east-based rebel army, according to military sources of both sides.

A military source of the government forces said that 11 of their troops were killed and dozens injured in the south of the capital. (Libya-Tripoli-Military clash)

ISLAMABAD -- At least 26 passengers were killed and 16 others injured when a passenger van hit a hill in Chilas district, northern Pakistan, on Sunday morning, local media reported.

The accident happened when the brakes of the van failed while negotiating a sharp turn at a mountainous terrain. (Pakistan-Road accident)

DURBAN -- South African police on Saturday gunned down nine suspected robbers in Isipingo, a town located 19 km south of Durban in the country's KwaZulu-Natal province.

BAGHDAD -- The extremist Islamic State (IS) militants shot dead four family members in an overnight attack on their house in the western province of Anbar, a provincial official said Sunday.

The incident took place in late Saturday night, when IS militants broke into a house, belonging to a member of the paramilitary tribal Hashd Shaabi fighters at the edges of the town of al-Kheirat, some 60 km east of the provincial capital Ramadi, Imad al-Dulaimi, the mayor of the town, told Xinhua.
