ABUJA, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- A road crash in Nigeria's northeastern state of Gombe early Tuesday claimed six lives and left 10 seriously injured, according to local police.
The incident occurred when an open truck conveying roofing sheets rammed into several vehicles, tricycles, and motorbikes on a bridge along the Gombe-Biu bypass, Nasiru Mohammed, a deputy police commissioner in the state, told Xinhua.
That road had recorded recurring accidents in recent times, Mohammed noted.
He said a preliminary investigation had revealed that the truck experienced brake failure at the of the incident.
Bad road conditions, reckless driving, and overloading are the most reported causes of road accidents in Nigeria, according to local road safety authorities. Enditem
