BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.00 percent, at 2,955.43 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.43 percent lower at 9,671.06 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Wednesday. Among sectors, except energy and IT, all other indices ended lower led by the banks, auto, metal, pharma, infra and FMCG.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 38,593.52, 503.62 points or 1.29 percent down compared to its previous close at 39,097.14.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed higher by 8.79 points, or 0.14 percent, to a level of 6,146.40 on Wednesday.

Some 428,567 transactions were booked, involving 16.9 billion copies of shares with a value of 7.6 trillion rupiah (about 537.1 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 2.12 points, or 0.13 percent, to close at 1,628.38 points.

Some 16.29 billion shares worth 44.86 billion baht (about 1.47 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,589.58 down 2.75 points or 0.17 percent, and the Emas was at 11,239.81 down 12.52 points or 0.11 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.94 percent, or 29.64 points, to close at 3,125.82.

A total of 989.81 million shares changed hands with a turnover of 967.82 million Singapore dollars (about 702.64 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 256 to 132.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 335.65 points, or 1.28 percent, to 25,945.35 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,917.68 and 26,190.56. Turnover totaled 75.57 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.64 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index up 2.83 points, or 0.33 percent, to close at 860.94.

A total of 13,466 shares worth 110.7 million riels (27,051 U.S. dollars) were traded, the CSX said.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 27.65 points, or 1.32 percent, to settle at 2,073.39. Trading volume stood at 640 million shares worth 5.1 trillion won (4.3 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market fell on Wednesday, with commodity prices and geo-political turbulence weighing on minds of investors.

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 38.70 points or 0.57 percent at 6,710.20, while the broader All Ordinaries index fell 41.90 points or 0.61 percent at 6,814.70.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks dropped Wednesday as caution prevailed on concerns over possible instability following the launch of a formal impeachment inquiry into U.S. President Donald Trump.
