HONG KONG -- Passage of the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act 2019 by two U.S. congressional committees showed endorsement to violent protesters and would further stoke violence in Hong Kong, said local residents and organizations.

The Friends of Hong Kong Association issued a statement, saying that the Act was blatant interference in China's domestic affairs and violation of the international law and basic principles in international relations. (Hong Kong-U.S.-Act)

KABUL -- Millions of Afghans have defied Taliban threats and used their rights to vote on Saturday in a one-day presidential election to elect their country's new president through ballots amid tight security.

MANILA -- A Philippines-China painting exhibition, themed "In Harmony with Nature", opened in the Metropolitan Museum of Manila on Saturday in a bid to strengthen cultural exchanges.

A total of 65 paintings by five Filipino artists and five Chinese artists are presented in the exhibition, which also showed drawings created by the two countries' artists during a joint trip in Palawan of southern Philippines in September. (Philippines-China-Exhibition)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Khusro Bakhtiar said on Saturday that his country will focus of reaping socio-economic benefits from the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Sharing the minutes of a meeting chaired by Bakhtiar in his office on Saturday in a series of tweets, the ministry said that relevant officials from federal and provincial governments attended the 58th progress review meeting of CPEC projects, during which it was informed that the government has accelerated the pace and implementation of CPEC.
