KIEV -- A cultural event entitled "Unusual Journey to China," which was organized by the Kiev city government and devoted to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, took place in one of the central Kiev parks in the capital of Ukraine on Saturday.

The event began with a grand opening of landscape composition "Vivid China", featuring Chinese architecture and crop production. Also in the park, an exhibition of drawings "China through the eyes of the children of Ukraine" was organized. Pupils of an art school in Kiev presented their works. (Kiev-70th Anniversary-PRC)

LONDON -- China has made "huge progress" in the past 70 years and the momentum of the country's development remains strong with "tremendous opportunities," said the chief of a leading university in Britain.

"The country has developed tremendously. I think the people of China should be very proud of that achievement," Koen Lamberts, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Sheffield, told Xinhua in an interview ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on Oct. 1. VIENNA -- Polling booths opened in Austria on Sunday for a snap election in which 6.4 million eligible voters will decide on their next lower house of the parliament.

MEXICO CITY -- Two people were killed and two others injured in a roller-coaster ride accident in an amusement park here on early Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred when the speeding last car on a roller coaster derailed at mid-ride at the La Feria de Chapultepec amusement park, the Mexico City attorney general's office said. (Mexico-Rollercoaster Accident) Enditem
