RABAT, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan authorities foiled on Sunday an attempt to smuggle over 11 kg of cocaine at the northern port of Tangier-Med.

According to a statement from the Moroccan Police DGSN, the banned substance was concealed in an international transportation truck coming from Spain.

The truck driver, of Moroccan nationality, and his assistant were arrested during this operation, the statement added.

The suspects were remanded in police custody to complete the investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, it said.

Moroccan authorities said the country witnessed in recent years an increase of cocaine seizures, including 541 kg of cocaine in a container from Latin America which arrived in Casablanca in February 2018. Enditem
