UNITED NATIONS -- This year's General Debate of the UN General Assembly concluded on Monday after representatives of 192 countries spoke at the green marble podium around the theme of "Galvanizing multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion."

In his closing remarks, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, the president of the current session of the UN General Assembly, said he was impressed by calls for multilateralism and for climate action. (UN-General Debate)

SANAA -- Yemen's Houthi group released on Monday 290 prisoners, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said in a statement.

"The unilateral release of 290 detainees, including 42 survivors of an attack on a place of detention in Dhamar this month, took place today," ICRC said. (Yemen-Houthis)

DEIR AL-ZOUR, Syria -- Under the victory banner, the Bukamal-Qaim border crossing between Syria and Iraq was reopened on Monday, the first time since its closure in 2014 when Islamic State (IS) militants captured areas on both sides of the border.

Xinhua reporters at the site witnessed the reopening of that key border crossing, which connects the town of Al-Bukamal in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour to the city of Husaybah in the Al-Qaim District of Iraq's Anbar governorate. (Syria-Iraq)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. House Intelligence Committee on Monday subpoenaed President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, asking him to cooperate with the ongoing impeachment inquiry into the president and provide documents related to his dealings with Ukraine.

The subpoena, issued in consultation with the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Oversight and Reform, requested that Giuliani submit by Oct. 15 all the "text messages, phone records, and other communications" with the Ukrainian authorities that the panels said indicated he and other Trump administration officials may have been involved in a "scheme" to influence the 2020 election.
