TOKYO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday after the country's manufacturing activity index fell to about a 10-year low in September.
When the market opened here, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average decreased 108.11 points, or 0.49 percent, from Tuesday to 21,777.13.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, declined 9.29 points, or 0.58 percent, at 1,593.71.
Mining, machinery and nonferrous metal issues comprised those that fell the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
