LUSAKA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu says there is no shame on the part of the government after its plan to replace the Value Added Tax with Sales Tax was aborted due to public pressure.

The Zambian leader said the decision demonstrated the government's resolve to take into account the concerns of the public in such important decisions and its keenness to rebuild a resilient private-sector driven business environment. (Times of Zambia)

-- The Zambian government says it is working on a policy to empower senior citizens by addressing the difficulties they face in their daily lives.

President Edgar Lungu said when he met members of the Senior Citizens Association of Zambia that there is need for a holistic policy which will enable senior citizens to be self-reliant. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- The World Bank says concession financing of 350 million U.S. dollars is available for Zambia under the 18th International Development Association program for various development initiatives.

-- The board of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) co-chaired by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and billionaire Aliko Dangote has commended Zambian President Edgar Lungu and his government for the support rendered to the continental entity and for hosting the sub-regional center for the southern African region.
