QUITO -- China's economic and social development in recent decades has set an admirable example for other developing countries, said Alejandro Suarez, director of the Diplomatic Academy at Ecuador's Foreign Affairs Ministry.

In an interview with Xinhua Tuesday on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Suarez credited China's rapid progress over decades to socialism with Chinese characteristics.

"Thanks to its economic policy, it has been radically transformed, reaching the level it has today," he said, adding that China's evolution is "admirable and set an example" for other developing countries.

LAGOS -- China has been playing critical roles in international politics and economics, leading to a tremendous mutually-beneficial relationship with many African countries, a Nigerian expert said.

TEHRAN -- The U.S. "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran is a broken-down policy and has failed to achieve its goals, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday, official IRNA news agency reported.

"The Americans illusioned that they will bring Iran to its knees by focusing on maximum pressure, particularly through economic sanctions," Khamenei said, adding that "however, they themselves faced problems and troubles."

UNITED NATIONS -- President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Tijjani Muhammad-Bande on Tuesday urged member states to strengthen women's political participation, as only eight percent of speakers on behalf of member states had been women at the just-concluded the General Debate of the UNGA.

It was "not a good figure, especially in relation to our commitment to gender equality," he told reporters, adding that he would keep urging member states to allow for the broadest participation and "unlock obstacles to the participation of women in politics." Enditem
