HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong police said Wednesday that the police officer who opened fire on a rioter was forced to do so, and his act was lawful and reasonable.
According to the Police General Orders, officers are allowed to open fire under three circumstances: to protect someone, including themselves, from death or serious injury; to bring about the arrest of any person who has just committed a serious or violent crime; or to quell a riot or insurrection. SYDNEY -- A man has been shot dead by police after a dramatic hour-long shootout in Australia on Wednesday evening, which saw multiple officers rushed to hospital.

PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan -- One people was killed and two others including the provincial police chief wounded as two local officials exchanged fire in provincial police headquarters of the northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province, head of Provincial Council Safdar Mohsini said Thursday.
