HARARE, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Zimbabwe's major media outlets on Thursday.
-- The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has given the green light for cash-out transactions on mobile money platforms, but capped it at 100 Zimbabwe dollars to minimize abuse.
This comes after the central bank had banned cash-in, cash-out and cash-back transactions on Monday, triggering a market reaction including frantic court action from a giant telecommunications company. (The Herald)
-- South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) has thrown its weight behind SADC's call for transnational solidarity against sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West and urged all its structures to organize activities on Oct. 25 to send an unequivocal message against the embargo.
This was said Wednesday by ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule while addressing a press conference at Luthuli House in Johannesburg. (The Herald)
-- The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has backed down from its directive to ban the cash-in and cash-out facility as well as the cash-back facility.
In a statement last night, RBZ governor John Mangudya notified payment system providers and agents that the cash-out facility was now capped at 100 dollars per transaction with immediate effect, while existing operational cash-in and cash-back limits remained the same. (Newsday) Enditem
