ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan and political representatives of the Afghan Taliban on Thursday agreed on the earliest resumption of the Afghan peace process that was unilaterally and abruptly called off by U.S. President Donald Trump in early September.
A delegation of the Taliban Political Commission (TPC) met Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the Pakistani Foreign Ministry and discussed ways for the resumption of the peace process. (Pakistan-Taliban)

PHNOM PENH -- A Cambodian court on Thursday handed prison terms of more than 10 years to two Japanese men for killing a taxi driver in order to rob his car, a court spokesman said.
Ryuji Nakakuki, 24, and his friend Ishida Reimon, 23, were arrested on March 17 soon after they allegedly killed Cambodian taxi driver Him Chan, 40, in northwestern Siem Reap province by slashing his throat with a knife in order to seize his Toyota Highlander. (Cambodia-Japan)

TALUQAN, Afghanistan -- At least 13 militants have been killed in Baharak district of the northern Takhar province as cleanup operations have been continuing to evict militants from the area, said an army statement on Thursday.
The mop up was launched Wednesday in the wake of Taliban militants' attempts to tight noose around Takhar's provincial capital Taluqan city and to achieve the goal. The armed militants have captured parts of Baharak district along the border with Taluqan. (Afghanistan-Taliban)

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended sharply lower Thursday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing at a three-week low, as sentiment was dented by worse-than-expected U.S. employment data coupled with a comparatively firm yen against the U.S. dollar.
