MAPUTO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- A group of unknown armed men attacked a bus, killing three of the passengers earlier Thursday morning in the central Mozambican province of Sofala.
The national radio station Radio Mozambique (RM) reported that the attack occurred on the north-south artery EN1, where the bus with 40 passengers was heading to the city of Quelimane in Zambezia Province.
The attackers came out from the woods, fired at the bus and then went back into the bush leaving three passengers dead and several others injured, according to the RM.
In September, two moving trucks were also reportedly ambushed by armed men, leaving three people dead and vehicles torched.
There is no information that the September attacks were perpetrated by the Renamo military junta, said Orlando Mudumane, the spokesperson for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) at a Wednesday press briefing.
The PRM spokesperson said the Defense and Security Forces will guarantee the security in Cabo Delgado as well as in other regions where there are imminent threats for peaceful elections scheduled for October 15. Enditem
