TRIPOLI, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Mustafa Al-Treki, member of Libya's High Council of State, have been released on Thursday after he was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen a few days ago.

"Mustafa Al-Treki, member of the council, was released and returned safely to his family, following successful joint efforts," the council's information office said in a statement.

According to local media, Al-Treki was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from his home in the western city of Zawiya, some 45 km west of the capital Tripoli, and taken to somewhere unknown.

The council said the kidnappers are likely to be members of the eastern-based army, which has been leading a military campaign to take over Tripoli and overthrow the UN-backed government.

In May, unidentified gunmen kidnapped the council's member Mohamed Abu-Ghamja from his home in southern Tripoli and took him to an unknown location. Enditem
