TOKYO, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened mixed Friday, as Wall Street's rise overnight on hopes the U.S. Federal Reserve will lower its interest rates for the third time this year at its late October meeting prompted buying, while the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar saw some issues offloaded.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 6.72 points, or 0.03 percent, from Thursday to 21,348.46.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 3.09 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,565.78.
Oil and coal product, and miscellaneous product issues led notable advancers, while decliners comprised insurance and bank issues in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
