Indian Hotels in pact with world’s leading brewer Ab InBev to launch 15 premium microbrewery chain in 5 years

MUMBAI, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Asia’s largest hospitality Indian chain – The Indian Hotels Company Limited has entered into pact with the World’s leading brewer - Anheuser Busch InBev (AB InBev) to launch a premium chain of 15 microbreweries within its marquee hotels across key locations in India over the next five years.

The partnership will leverage the collective strengths of the two leading companies by investing 21 million U.S. dollars in the first five years to shape the future of quality craft beer in India with the first microbrewery to be opened at Taj MG Road, Bengaluru in the South Western state of Karnataka, according to a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange late Thursday.

Commenting on this partnership, Jan Craps, Executive Director & CEO, Budweiser APAC and President -APAC, AB InBev said, "The microbreweries will be conceptualized by LX. Ventures, our global innovation and investment team that will bring in their global brewing expertise to develop the current ecosystem and delight our consumers with local ingredients in Beer.”

Listed on the stock exchanges of Belgium, Mexico, South Africa and New York, AB InBev has a diverse portfolio of well over 500 beer brands including global brands Budweiser, Corona and Stella Artois.

We look forward to collaborating with the emerging craft community in the country and are confident that our synergies in this category will shape the craft beer industry in India, Craps said.

JOI Design from Hamburg will design all the microbreweries, the statement said.

“With its diverse collection of over 500 beer brands, AB InBev will be involved in setting up on-site microbreweries at some of our iconic hotels; the first of which will be at Taj MG Road, Bengaluru, followed by Goa, Mumbai and Hyderabad." said Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Indian Hotels Company, which operates 181 hotels including 30 under development globally across 4 continents, 12 countries and in over 80 locations.

According to rating agency Fitch, Beer sales in volume terms in India is estimated to reach 6.5 billion liters by 2022 from 4.7 billion liters in 2017. Enditem
