HANOI, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Police of Vietnam's central Nghe An province have detained a local man for smuggling 4 kg of crystal methamphetamine from Laos to Vietnam.

The 23-year-old drug trafficker was caught red-handed transporting the drug on Wednesday at night in Ky Son district, local online newspaper Law and Society reported on Friday. He confessed that he was hired by a Lao man to transport the drug for a wage of 1,000 U.S. dollars.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty. Enditem
