NAIROBI, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion Stella Chesang will be up for a rough ride in her title defense quest at this year's Durban 10K City Surf Run on Oct. 13 in South Africa.

Chesang, who competes for Uganda, will be up against Kenya's Sheila Chepkirui, the second-fastest in history with a time of 29 minutes and 57 seconds set at the Prague Grand Prix in September this year, only 14 seconds away from her compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei's world record.

"I feel am in top form and can take up the challenge. Chesang is from Uganda, but trains in Kenya and will be hard to beat, with her focus on doing well ahead of the Olympics. But I run my own race and will be ready for it," said Chepkirui on Friday.

Also confirmed are Kenya's Beatrice Mutai, who has a best of 31:28 and South Africans Irvette van Zyl, Glenrose Xaba and Gerda Steyn.

"They are top athletes. But such is the expectation at this stage of the competition. In Prague, it was tough against strong opponents and the wind. But I am happy I posted a good time. I was fighting so, so hard to win the race," said Chepkirui. Enditem
