AMMAN, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Sunday summoned the charge d'Affaires of the Israeli embassy in Amman, demanding the release of two detained Jordanians.

The ministry handed over a letter to the Israeli envoy, demanding an immediate release of Hiba Abdul Baqi and Abdulrahman Meri and that they receive decent treatment, according to a ministry statement.

In the letter, the Jordanian government called on Israel to adhere to the international law and human rights conventions.

Sufian Qudah, Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said Jordan holds the Israeli authorities accountable for the safety of the detained Jordanians.

The Jordanian embassy in Tel Aviv was following up on the issue, he said.

Last month, the ministry said it had summoned the Israeli ambassador to Jordan and called for the immediate release of Abdul Baqi and Meri who were detained by Israeli authorities after crossing the King Hussein Bridge. Enditem
