BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Solomon Islands' Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare will pay an official visit to China on Oct. 8-13 and attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
The following is a profile of Sogavare.
Sogavare, 64, graduated from the University of the South Pacific with a bachelor's degree in accounting and economics, and from the University of Waikato in New Zealand with a master's degree in management.
He worked for the Solomon Islands' revenue department. In 1993, he became permanent secretary of the Ministry of Finance.
He was first elected to the National Parliament in 1997, and has been serving in the parliament ever since.
Sogavare served three times as prime minister in 2000-2001, 2006-2007, and 2014-2017.
In 2017, he was deputy prime minister and minister of finance and treasury. He was elected for the fourth time as prime minister after the general elections in April 2019.
