TOKYO, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar gave exporter issues a boost, which tends to have a positive bearing on the broader market.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 183.97 points, or 0.86 percent, from Monday to 21,559.22.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 12.47 points, or 0.79 percent, at 1,585.22.
Nonferrous metal, machinery, and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
