WINDHOEK, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Namibia and Guinea on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the energy sector.

The two countries agreed to form a joint committee to carry out the MoU. The committee will work together with both countries' energy ministries to explore partnership opportunities especially in renewable energy.

Namibian Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said at the signing ceremony that she was happy the two countries reached such an MoU.

"Energy is very critical for the realization of (the African Union's) Agenda 2063 and that is why our president has directed us to make sure that this is done," Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

"This is important to both countries and members of both countries and it is our responsibility to show to the rest of Africa how we can cooperate in this field," she said, adding that Namibia will do its part to make sure the MoU is implemented. Enditem
