Vietnam's footwear export rises 13.5 pct in 9 months

HANOI, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam raked in over 13.3 billion U.S. dollars from exporting footwear in the first nine months this year, witnessing a year-on-year rise of 13.5 percent, according to the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association on Tuesday.

Largest importers of Vietnam's footwear products included the European Union, the United States, China, Japan, and South Korea, said the association.

Between January and September, the country also earned nearly 2.8 billion U.S. dollars from exporting handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats and umbrellas, up 12.2 percent from the same period last year.

In 2018, Vietnam reaped 16.3 billion U.S. dollars from exporting footwear and roughly 3.4 billion U.S. dollars from handbag export, witnessing respective year-on-year rise of 11 percent and 3.2 percent, according to its General Statistics Office. Enditem
