Chinese higher education opportunities exhibited in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition on higher education in China opened here Tuesday to familiarize Uzbeks with opportunities to study abroad in the East Asian country.

Organizers said 30 leading higher educational institutions of China were presented at the event.

Zhang Ning, head of the Chinese delegation and deputy secretary-general of the China Scholarship Council, said Uzbek students have the opportunity to learn about studying in China and scholarship possibilities.

Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jiang Yan said the exhibition is another important step in building educational ties between the two countries.

"This exhibition and the visit of Chinese experts to Tashkent will certainly help to familiarize the people of Uzbekistan with the state of higher education in China, and will contribute to promoting exchanges between people and strengthening humanitarian ties between the two countries," the ambassador said.

Uzokboy Begimkulov, deputy minister of higher and secondary education of Uzbekistan, expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for the opportunity to get acquainted with educational opportunities in China.

The Chinese language is taught as a main area of the specialty at three Uzbek universities. Furthermore, more than 2,000 lovers of Chinese language, literature and culture study at the Confucius Institutes operating in two universities of the country, Begimkulov said. Enditem
