TEHRAN -- "Although the enemy of Iran does not want to confess, they have accepted that their maximum pressure campaign against Iran has failed and they have to give it up," Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday.

Rouhani said that the Iranian nation has thwarted the U.S. sanction pressures with their "sacrifices." He urged Washington to quit its maximum pressure campaign which has failed so far.

MOSCOW -- "We, in fact, are very closely observing the steps that Washington is taking in terms of developing new weapons systems," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

Russia is closely monitoring U.S. moves to develop new weapons, but it will not be drawn into a new arms race as the country has unique and advanced weapons of its own, the Kremlin said.

TEHRAN -- Iran's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that Iran opposes any possible military operation by Turkey in Syria.

Iran "believes that such a measure, if takes place, not only would not alleviate Turkey's security concerns, but also would cause wide humanitarian and material damage," according to the statement.

HONG KONG -- Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam on Tuesday urged foreign politicians to take an objective view of the current situation in Hong Kong and stop supporting those who are committing violence.

"For the past four months, especially during the recent one or two months, we were under unprecedented impact of violence," she said. "I believe if they see the real situation currently in Hong Kong, no foreign governments will agree it is essentially about freedom of expression." Enditem
