BAKU, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on Tuesday, appointing his aide for economic affairs as the country's new prime minister, according to the presidential administration website.
Ali Asadov, 62, succeeds Novruz Mammadov, who presented his resignation letter to the president earlier Tuesday.
A graduate of Moscow Institute of Economics, Asadov started his working career in 1978. His appointments included researcher, associate professor and department chair at several institutions. He served as a member of Azerbaijan's parliament in 1995-2000. In 1998, he was appointed as the president's aide for economic affairs.
Addressing the parliament during a voting on his nomination as prime minister, Asadov vowed he would remain committed to the president's policy and try his best to fulfill all the tasks to be entrusted to him.
Mammadov had served as prime minister since April last year. Enditem
