HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Wednesday welcomed the World Economic Forum's ranking of Hong Kong as the third most competitive economy globally and vowed to continue to generate more business opportunities for Hong Kong.

KABUL -- Anti-government militants blew up power pylon in Salang district of Afghanistan's eastern Parwan province and left Kabul in darkness, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Salim Nuri said Wednesday.

HANOI -- A sleeping coach carrying some 20 passengers overturned in Vietnam's central Ha Tinh province on early Wednesday morning, leaving one died and four local people severely injured.

CANBERRA -- A leading member of the Opposition Australian Labor Party has called for the party to abandon its ambitious carbon emissions target.
