KIEV, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- An opening ceremony of the renovated Chinese-Ukrainian Poetry Lawn was held Wednesday in the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kiev.

China's ambassador to Ukraine Du Wei and the principal of the Taras Shevchenko National University Leonid Gubersky attended the ceremony.

"This ceremony is a continuation of that great attention that our University pays to the culture and language of China. And today as we can see, the students from our university who study the Chinese language and Chinese culture also come to attend this ceremony. This again confirms their great interest in the cultural achievements of the Chinese people," Gubersky said at the opening ceremony.

The renovation was done with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine. A sculptural composition "Gate of the Soul. The Dialogue of Taras Shevchenko and Du Fu" was erected in 2017 on the lawn. The sculpture depicts the two great poets of Ukraine and China.

Taras Shevchenko National University's botanical garden, founded in 1839, is one of the oldest botanical institutions in Ukraine. Enditem
