WARSAW, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Polish defender Kamil Glik hopes that Poland will beat Latvia on Thursday in Riga after the team gained just one point in their last two games of the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers.

The players coached by Jerzy Brzeczek made a perfect start of the qualifiers, winning four consecutive matches, but then Poland surprisingly suffered the defeat against Slovenia and shared the points with Austria.

"We are awared that we failed. The team deserved criticism, but some opinions were too strong and unfair. I understand that sometimes people praise you, another time they give negative comments. I'm used to that and I don't bother. I have a strong mentality," said Glik on Wednesday's pre-match press conference.

"The game against Latvia will be tough, but we expect to secure an important win. We also want to show good football. If we don't play with the concentration, we won't take the positive result," added the AS Monaco player.

Poland sit top of the table with 13 points, while Latvia still wait on their first point after losing six matches in a row. Enditem
