Tokyo stocks advance in morning amid hopes for China-U.S. trade talks

TOKYO, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Friday morning after inheriting a positive lead from Wall Street overnight, with investors hopeful that progress will be made during high-level trade talks being held in Washington between China and the United States.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 209.27 points, or 0.97 percent, from Thursday to 21,761.25.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.59 points, or 0.61 percent, at 1,591.01.

Mining, securities house and retail-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
