WASHINGTON -- U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said on Sunday that the United States is planning to withdraw around 1,000 U.S. troops from northern Syria, where Turkish offensive against Syrian Kurdish forces has been underway.

"In the last 24 hours we learned that they (Turkish forces) likely intend to expand their attack further south than originally planned and to the west," Esper told CBS on Sunday morning. (US-Turkey-Syria)

TOKYO -- Five Chinese crew members died, one missing and another rescued after a Panama registered cargo ship sank late Saturday in Tokyo Bay, where it was anchored as Typhoon Hagibis approached, the Chinese embassy in Japan confirmed to Xinhua on Monday.
