MOGADISHU, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) --The East African bloc on Monday condemned the terrorist attack on the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the UN compounds in Mogadishu on Sunday which left at least seven people including three AU mission's staff wounded.

Mahboub Maalim, executive secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) expressed the bloc's solidarity with the partners whose sterling performance in their mandate he said cannot be over emphasized.

The Sunday's attack saw al-Shabab fire several mortar bombs into the Halane base camp, which houses AMISOM, UN and other international agencies committed to serving the people of Somalia.

The militant group claimed responsibility for the latest attack.

Maalim commended the United Nations Mission to Somalia (UNSOM) and AMISOM for their role in supporting the Somali government and the Somali people in their quest for a peaceful and prosperous country.

He also expressed the bloc's commitment to supporting the government and the people of Somalia in the stabilization process. Enditem
