WINDHOEK, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Electoral Commission of Namibia said Tuesday that it will not accept a second candidate nomination for the opposition party in the upcoming presidential elections.
The opposition party, the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), wants to field two candidates due to internal party factionalism over leadership.
Initially, an RDP quarter registered Mike Kavekotora as the presidential candidate for the party, but another faction appointed its candidate, Kendy Nehova, as the RDP president.
Other political parties have already registered their candidates, including Hage Geingob, candidate of the ruling South West Africa People's Organisation party and the incumbent Namibian president, Popular Democratic Movement candidate McHenry Venaani, Landless People's Movement President Bernadus Swartbooi, and independent candidate Panduleni Itula.
The presidential elections are scheduled for Nov. 27. Enditem
